Sorry about the late post this week! I've been fulfilling the student aspect of the "student athlete" title. Anyways, another weekend down with 3 more wins and 0 losses added to the record! We played 3 games this weekend, 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday against Xavier University. Off to a somewhat chilly start, game 1 began at 11 am with Miami in the field. Miltko started on the mound striking out the first batter but strong hits from Xavier scored 2 runs within the first inning. The first inning was rather slow, allowing 7 batters to come up to the plate but we got out of the inning only allowing 2 runs to score. Miami's first at bat started with Klimczyk getting on base from an error and getting moved over on a sacrifice bunt from Ross. Cohen started the hitting off with a single followed by Johnson with a double, contributing to 2 runs scored in the inning. Miami tied up the first inning making it a new ball game. Defense for the later innings was excellent, allowing no runs to score the rest of the game. Offense was excellent as well with highlights from Patten going 3/4 with not only a triple, but also our first homerun of the season! Congratulations Naomi!! 2 runs scored in the 3rd inning, followed by a break and 2 more scoring in the 5th. Miami ended game 1 with a final score of 6-2. We got a nice little lunch break in between games and were ready for game #2 to begin a little earlier than scheduled. Strauss started on the mound this game (I didn't know she pitched either) and with the help of the defense, knocked them out 1,2,3! Unfortunately we were not able to score any runs the first inning either, making it a scoreless first inning. The second inning we were able to get rolling with back-to-back doubles from Klimczyk and Ross! This scored Miami 2 runs, making it 2-0 going into the third inning. 2 runs ended up being scored by Xavier in the third inning though from base hits from their offense. Miami came back with 3 more in the 3rd inning, followed by 1 in the 4th, 3 in the 5th, and 4 more in the 6th! Thanks to Parker with the run-ruling walk off double, we were able to end the game short and get off the fields with a final score of game 13-2 Miami! Saturday night we were able to rest (well, some of us, if you know what I mean) and get back to the ball field on Sunday morning! Game 3 started with Miltko on the mound only allowing 18 batters to come to the plate. This is really good if you think about it, 5 innings with 3 outs each would be 15 batters and Miltko only had 3 more than that. Thank you for listening to my math lesson there, not sure why I'm not pursuing a degree with strong mathematical skills required. Anyways, our offense started off with a triple from Klimczyk and a hit from Cohen that scored 2 runs in the first inning. In the second inning, we were able to score 6 runs with hits from Patten, Parker, and Harrelson. Only allowing one run to score on defense, the game was cut short yet again in 5 innings with a final score of 9-1 Miami. I honestly think we finished this game so fast because there was a cookout scheduled for after the game...if it was acceptable I would've just been like "No, its ok Xavier, you win" and just done the cookout right then and there. But I guess getting a win on our record is cool too. Shoutout to all the parents that contributed and helped in making that cookout such a great bonding opportunity and a great eating opportunity as well! Games this weekend are all on Sunday at Oxford Community Park against EKU @ 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.
