Hey ya'll! This weekend we were in Louisville, KY for our first series of games playing all 3 in one day. We went down to Louisville on Saturday night and got to experience "Downs After Dark" at Churchill Downs, increasing team chemistry and decreasing our bank accounts from betting on horses. Quick shout out to the Cohen's for letting us stay at their house and providing us with delicious meals, thank you! Now on to the softball aspect . . . The games weren't too bad for it being our first weekend, but there are definitely improvements to be made! During the first game, Miami took the lead 2-0 during the 1st inning with runs scored by Klimczyk and Ross. Unfortunately, we didn't score again until the 6th inning, with 3 runs scored by Klimczyk, Miltko, and Ross. Defense was almost flawless as Kate Miltko struck out 10 batters during her 7 innings pitched, while the defense only let 2 runners on base the entire game. The game 1 hitting leader was Ross who was 3-4 and had 2 of the 5 runs scored. Miami ended the game on top with a final score of 5-0. We got our snacks in between game 1 and 2 and got the needed energy to start the next game just a short 20 minutes later! Game 2 started with 1 run scored in the 1st inning by Klimczyk who got on base by an error from Louisville. Following 2 outs by Anderson and Strauss, Patten came up strong with a double that ended up scoring Klimczyk. The next two innings were scoreless, with no hits. Going into the 4th inning, Johnson started the inning with a single, eventually scoring with the help of Miltko. 2 more runs were scored in the 7th inning by Klimczyk and Anderson making a final score of 4-0. Once again, Miltko allowed no runs to score, adding 7 more strikeouts to her previous 10. If you were wondering why Miltko is pitching all 3 games in a row, it's because Allen sprained her ankle during a Greek Week event, not really what we wanted but hey it happens. Good spirit Kate! Finally, game 3. We got the most runs this game, scoring 6 in one inning during a hitting/walk party with almost everyone in the lineup. Game 3 ended up with a final score of 8-0 with Miltko and Strauss both being the leaders in hitting with 2 hits each. As Miltko became fatigued (I get fatigued just walking out to the field, so I don't blame her), she allowed 4 hits in game 3 but her and the defense once again allowed no runs to score! It was a great first weekend back in the red and black and shutting out Louisville 3 games in a row wasn't too shabby either. Special shoutout to Kate Miltko for being a trooper and pitching all 3 games and doing an excellent job at it! Games are this weekend (9/26 - 9/27) at 11 and 1 on Saturday and 11 on Sunday at Oxford Community Park against Xavier! Come support us to more victories, that's all for now. Thanks for reading.
